The meditation practice of profound awareness is traditionally called Satipatthana, but in modern language we use the name Vipassana. This word does not describe a technique or style of meditation, but rather the purpose of that meditation – to see things as they really are, and so no longer be deluded by how life appears to be. This meditation and Dhamma practice is non political, non gender oriantated and non religious. There is nothing to believe or accept without direct experience of the teachings presented. At the heart of Pure Dhamma is the recognition that if we want to be free we must cultivate awareness, but for full liberation, we have to be at peace with what this awareness reveals to us and more; that the world we experience is the one we create for ourselves. This is why our authentic awareness practice (Vipassana) cannot be separated from loving kindness (Metta Bhavana). One without the other is ultimately ineffective. Live with love and be aware, this is the whole of our Pure Dhamma training. It is both the path and the goal. It is for everyone who want to be free from life's unhappiness by turning to this beautiful path of wisdom, self reliance, awareness and love. The two practices of love and awareness are like two hands that wash each other culminating in a wise and fearless approach to life as 'self' and all ist conditions for happiness dissolve. With awareness we see, with love we accept and with wisdom we respond. This is the whole of Dhamma.

Michael Kewley
Michael Kewley is the former Buddhist monk Paññadipa, who now as a layman, is an internationally acclaimed Master of Dhamma, presenting courses and meditation retreats throughout the world. For many years he was the guiding teacher at the International Meditation Centre, Budh Gaya, India and is the founder of the Pure Dhamma tradition of spiritual awakening. A disciple of the late Sayadaw Rewata Dhamma, he teaches solely on the instruction of his own Master; to share the Dhamma, in the spirit of the Buddha, so that all beings might benefit. He began his Dhamma life at the age of eighteen with Transcendental Meditation, before studying in both the Rinzai and Soto schools of Zen. In his mid twenties he first met Sayadaw Rewata Dhamma and recounts fondly that on the very first meeting he knew he had found his Master when he was told quite simply, 'if you want to be happy in your life, you have to cultivate a loving heart. This simple instruction has become the standard by which he teaches now, and Michael was affectionately known in Budh Gaya, India as, 'the Guru with the loving heart.' On 26th May 2002, during a special ceremony at the Dhamma Talaka Temple in England, he was awarded the title Dhammachariya, meaning Master.
